Lynn Hervey and Jamal Collins built a life together but their journey took a tragic turn in April 2020.
Collins, an entrepreneur and father, was shot in the head in Minneapolis, according to WCCO News.
“At 9:45, his friend called me and he said ‘Jamal is shot and he is dead,’” Hervey said.

Collins was rushed into surgery and doctors advised Hervey to consider organ donation, she told WCCO.
“I know he ate right and stuff, so I know physically we are going to be able to get there,” Hervey said. “I know one side is going to be weaker, so I know we are able to get that stronger, so I was like I’m going to, I’m keeping him here.”
