The Trump administration withdrew a proposed ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars Tuesday. Former President Joe Biden’s administration had previously weighed the ban, but ultimately scrapped it in April 2024 over fears that it would alienate black voters ahead of the election. The 2009 Tobacco Control Act banned all flavored cigs except for menthol. The law also gave the FDA the power to regulate tobacco products and encouraged the health bureaucracy to consider going after the delicious minty flavor, according to Bloomberg.
