Ta’Niya Latson, nation’s leading scorer, transferring to South Carolina from Florida State

Days after losing in the NCAA tournament national championship game, South Carolina is adding a major scorer to its roster.

Ta’Niya Latson, who led the nation in scoring at 25.2 points per game, is leaving Florida State after entering the transfer portal in late March. The 5-foot-8 guard is joining Dawn Staley’s program after three seasons in Tallahassee, during which she averaged 22.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 37% on 3-pointers.

The junior guard announced her choice on social media, saying, “Feelin’ cocky!”

Scoring was an issue for South Carolina throughout the season in pursuit of its second consecutive national title. The Gamecocks ranked No. 15 in the nation (and fifth in the SEC) at 79.1 points per game. Joyce Edwards led the team, averaging 12.7 points, followed by MiLaysia Fulwiley at 11.7 and Chloe Kitts at 10.2.
