The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn relieved Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, a pastor of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Monday after the pastor allegedly mishandled nearly $2 million in church funds.
The pastor allegedly provided the funds to entities in the name of Frank Carone as “three apparent loans,” according to a statement from Diocese of Brooklyn Bishop Robert Brennan obtained by the Daily Caller. Carone has been an advisor to Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the New York Daily News reported. The monsignor allegedly also employed the church’s credit card for personal purposes, the bishop added. The investigation is ongoing.
Brennan’s statement said the Diocese learned on Nov. 1, 2023 that Gigantiello allowed Sabrina Carpenter, a pop star, to film a music video at the church. The Diocese maintained that this act was against church policy.
