An Alabama man has been convicted of first-degree sodomy and sex abuse of a child under the age of 12, Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey tells PEOPLE.
Dustin Lamar Peoples abused a 10-year-old girl for months, forcing her to perform oral sex on him in exchange for permission to play video games on a gaming console, according to prosecutors.
In March 2019, the young girl confided in a trusted adult about the abuse, and days later went to the Blount County Children’s Center to make an official report, according to Casey.
“She did her best to explain the things that had been done to her using terms she understood at the time,” Casey said in a statement after his Thursday, Oct. 10, conviction. “She was innocent. She did not know the common words that adults or even teenagers…
