Vice President Kamala Harris is delivering a eulogy for former President Jimmy Carter during a lying-in-state ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.
Harris is scheduled to begin speaking in honor of the country’s 39th president around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) are also expected to deliver eulogies at the ceremony.

Carter died at age 100 at the end of December 2024. Mourners may pay their respects to the former president in Washington as he lies in state at the Capitol from Tuesday evening to Thursday morning.
