Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva (AZ) passed away on Thursday morning after a battle with cancer.
He was 77.
“The Office of the 7th District of Arizona is saddened to announce the passing of Congressman Raul M. Grijalva. Rep. Grijalva fought a long and brave battle. He passed away this morning due to complication of his cancer treatments,” the statement read.

“First elected to Congress in 2002, Grijalva held prominent positions on the House Natural Resources Committee, including serving as chair and ranking member, during his tenure,” CNN reported.
“A special election will need to be held to fill the vacancy,” the outlet reported.
