With a Super Bowl LIX berth on the line, it seems NFL referees have again found themselves in the midst of controversial calls. There was a moment in the second quarter when Saquon Barkley had clearly broken some rules. When the Eagles were facing a 4th-and-5 into Washington’s 45-yard line, there was an instance where Barkley wasn’t called out for a clear holding penalty. As Tom Brady, who is in charge of broadcasting duties for Fox, stated, “I think Saquon Barkley gets away with a little bit of hook.” He even had Fox rules analyst Mike Pereira second his claim, “I don’t think there’s anything to think about. That was clearly a hold and should’ve been called.” But it wasn’t as Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown combined for a huge 31-yard gain.
