As former President Donald Trump is set to become the nominee of the Republican Party this week at the Republican National Convention, it may be a little different than in years past.
During Trump’s first presidential run in 2016, he was seen as an underdog, with at the time no political experience. In 2020, he was facing unpopularity with some factions of the GOP and unrest due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, he has a stronghold over the Republican Party and there was little question he would be the nominee once the primaries began.
In-person conventions have also not happened in previous years as both the RNC and the Democratic National Convention were moved to a virtual format in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Here is what you need to know ahead of the convention
When is the convention?
The 2024 Republican National Convention runs Monday, July 15, through Thursday, July 18.
