Update, Thursday, February 3 at 9:45 p.m.: Oprah Winfrey has announced that Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks are reprising their roles as Celie and Sofia in The Color Purple film, according to Deadline. The casting was revealed Thursday night during the ABC News special Soul of a Nation Presents: Screen Queens Rising. “I am here representing all things purple to tell you that you are our Sophia,” Winfrey said during the special. “I’m so happy to pass whatever baton from 35 — almost 40 — years ago to you.
