Boy, 11, Shot in the Head After Climbing Fence to Retrieve Football

An 11-year-old boy in England was shot in the head after climbing a fence to recover a ball.

Police announced on Thursday, May 23, that the incident happened on the evening of Monday, May 20, as the boy was playing with friends in a backyard in Leyland, Lancashire.

According to a press release from the Lancashire Police, after the football (or soccer ball in America) went over the fence, the pre-teen climbed over it and “was hit in the head by a metal pellet fired from what is thought to be an air weapon.”

A neighbor recalled hearing “commotion in the road” after the incident occurred in a conversation with The Telegraph.
