Arizona Fines Care Facility $500 After 85-Year-Old With Alzheimer’s Wanders Out, Dies: Report

After a resident living with Alzheimer’s disease wandered off from an Arizona care facility and died in the desert, a $500 fine was incurred which a seniors-focused group contends is insufficient, according to reports.

Robert Pollmann went missing June 23, 2024, having been “last seen on foot exiting the front door of the care home” in Scottsdale, according to a Silver Alert issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (ADPS). The 85-year-old man “suffers from a medical condition which can cause him to become lost or confused,” according to the alert.

Pollmann was found dead two days after he was last seen, according to Scottsdale police. The facility, Brookhaven, was later investigated for negligence — a state inspector found that the home’s front door alarm failed to work on the day of the inspection — and fined $500 in a settlement deal, ABC15 reported,…
