Andy Kim will support government shutdown to ‘hold’ GOP ‘accountable’

Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ) said he is open to working with Democrats to deny Republicans the votes needed to keep the government funded as a response to President Donald Trump’s overhaul of the federal government. 

“In a few weeks, the Republicans are going to try to figure out how they move forward, and they have, for the last two years, needed Democratic votes for every single continuing resolution, and they should not count on that this time,” Kim said in an interview on NBC News’s Meet the Press.

Kim, a first-term senator, chastised Republican lawmakers for allowing the Trump administration to “dismantle the government.”
