Flight From NY To India Diverted To Rome Over ‘Security Issue,’ Escorted By Fighter Jets

An American Airlines flight bound to India from New York was diverted to Rome due to a “possible security issue,” the airline confirmed to the Daily Caller.

Flight 292 landed safely at the Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) early Sunday after departing from John F. Kennedy International Airport, American Airlines said in a statement.

An official briefed on the incident told ABC that a bomb threat was received via email. Flight Radar 24 also reported on X that the plane was diverted “following a bomb threat for the flight.”

American Airlines said the concern was “determined to be non-credible,” however an inspection of the aircraft was necessary per the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s (DEL) protocol. Upon its arrival in Rome, law enforcement inspected and cleared the aircraft for re-departure.
