Jason Carter says it didn’t bother him that U.S. flags were raised for President Donald Trump‘s inauguration after they were lowered in honor of his late grandfather, former President Jimmy Carter.
Trump’s move to raise the flags was unusual and went against the customs honoring recently deceased former presidents. Flags were ordered to be displayed at half-staff for 30 days following Jimmy Carter’s Dec. 29 death.
Despite the uncustomary move, Jason Carter said he understood it.
“Others in my family may disagree, but it did not bother me at all. President Trump was incredibly gracious to us,” he said on the Politically Georgia podcast.
