Purdue Pharma, Sacklers Reach $7.4 Billion National Opioid Settlement

Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family reached a $7.4 billion settlement with victims of the opioid crisis and a bipartisan coalition of 15 states, Connecticut’s attorney general announced Thursday.

Purdue, owned by the Sacklers, previously reached a $6 billion settlement with the victims, but the Supreme Court rejected the deal, claiming a stipulation in the settlement that would grant the Sacklers and Purdue blanket immunity from future prosecution was “exceptional and unprecedented.”

“Today, we are forcing Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family to pay $7.4 billion for their role in igniting one of the most devastating public health crises in American history,” Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said Thursday.
