Former CIA Analyst, Ivy League Grad Pleads Guilty To Leaking Classified Information On Strikes Against Iran

A former CIA analyst admitted to a federal court Friday that he obtained and leaked classified information that later surfaced on social media in October, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) said.

Asif William Rahman, a 34-year-old from Vienna, pleaded guilty to two counts of willfully retaining and transmitting classified information connected to the national defense, according to the DOJ’s press release. He had served with the CIA since 2016 and possessed a Top-secret security clearance that gave him access to “Sensitive Compartmentalized Information.”

“[O]n Oct. 17, 2024, Rahman accessed and printed two Top Secret documents containing National Defense Information regarding a U.S. foreign ally and its planned actions against a foreign adversary,” the DOJ wrote, citing court documents. “Rahman removed the documents, photographed them, and transmitted them to…
