I’ve got a long list of reasons to love an air fryer. They’re speedy pieces of cookware the prioritize efficiency, convenience and crispy, tasty results. Air fryers also pose no risk of contaminating your air like natural gas ovens do. Better still, you don’t have to spend more than $100 to get a good one. I’ve recently found a new reason to love my air fryer: it helps me save energy (and money).
To see how much an air fryer can save you versus a wall oven in a year, I did some math. By my calculations, air fryers use roughly half the total energy of a wall oven, and that’s before factoring in the shorter total operating time needed for most food since air fryers cook faster and have almost no preheat time.
Here’s how we got that figure and a breakdown of how much you can save using your air fryer instead of the oven.
