President Trump demanded on Sunday night that the House GOP fix Joe Biden and Ousted Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s debt ceiling “problem.” Trump is correct to label June’s impending debt ceiling fight as Biden and McCarthy’s “problem” because Biden’s “COVID relief” and “infrastructure” laws, passed when Democrats controlled the House and Senate, resulted in billions added to America’s debt. In September 2023, Then-Speaker McCarthy worked with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling in a deal that expires in June 2025. McCarthy’s debt ceiling deal with Biden cost him his Speakership. Ironically, during the fall of 2023, Marjorie Taylor Greene defended Kevin McCarthy’s decision to raise the debt ceiling by insinuating nothing could be done about the debt ceiling issue until Trump got into office.
