WNBA Could Go Into Lockout After WNBPA Opts Out Of Current Collective Bargaining Agreement Following Historic Season

We have a battle brewing in the WNBA!

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) has made the decision to opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement that they have with the league.

The WNBPA, which is the WNBA‘s players union, voted to nix their deal with the league Monday. Coming just one day following the New York Liberty winning their first WNBA championship in franchise history, it’s been long expected that the WNBPA was going to make this move. “The players made the decision to opt out of the last CBA to realign the business and save the league from its own limitations,” stated WNBPA executive director Terri Jackson.
