PetSmart grooming employees are wearing their ‘preferred pronouns’ on their work smocks

Earlier this week, I took my dog to get groomed at a local PetSmart in Philadelphia. When I walked into the store, I noticed a big rainbow Pride flag hanging on the wall between the grooming salon and the veterinarian’s office at this particular location. I thought it was odd, given that Pride month has long been over, and I didn’t notice any American flags hanging anywhere.

The Pride flag was out of place but a sign of things to come.

Upon entering the salon, I was greeted by a lovely woman with short purple hair. I noticed that on her smock that appeared to be part of her work uniform, where one would expect the employee’s name to be, there were her preferred pronouns, “they/them.” I couldn’t confirm if this was a company-wide policy or just something implemented at this location.
