U.S. Stocks Fall After Powell’s Jackson Hole Speech

U.S. stocks dropped Friday after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the central bank must continue raising interest rates and hold them at a higher level until it is confident inflation is under control.

The S&P 500 declined 1.9%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 532 points, or 1.6%. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.5%. The indexes had been little changed ahead of the speech.
